CHAPTER 16

The room empty, Cora headed back to the nurses’ station. The nurse there, a hefty woman with a winning smile seemed eager to help.

“Autumn,” Cora said. “Her room is empty, and I have a box of cookies for her.”

“Oh, she went home,” the nurse said. “Discharged a while ago.”

“Discharged? Already?”

“Oh, her injuries weren’t all that bad, although they did cause her some pain. That seemed to clear up quickly, so there was no reason to keep her. She was anxious to leave, as she wanted to bowl.”

“Bowl? I thought her shoulder was messed up.”

“Not so much as we first thought. She seemed perfectly normal today. So, there was no reason to stop her from bowling.”

“Well, that suits me. I’ll just deliver the cookies to the bowling alley.”

As Cora left the hospital, she couldn’t help but marvel at Autumn’s recovery. Cora also thought that an outing at TEN PIN ALLEY would do everyone some good. It was time to close the bakery anyway. Why not have everyone show up for a bit of fun. She grabbed her phone and started making calls.
